The Vegg Review and Giveaway Winner!

The turn-out for this giveaway was like none other! A BIG thank you to Peanut Butter & Co. for their generous gift to Vegan Noms readers. Congratulations to Amanda of Hungry Vegan Traveler, the winner of three jars of delicious PB goodness! You will be contacted by e-mail shortly.

Moment of truth: Unfortunately, I had to re-generate a random number about 5 times because the first numbers led to readers who did not leave an e-mail address in the comment or on their profile. You can’t win if you don’t leave an addy!

Be on the lookout for more giveaways coming up! Now who’s ready for some french toast?

The Vegg is a product that has been on the market for some time now, yet can only really be found online or in specialty stores. I picked up a packet at Food Fight! during VVC 2013 in Portland earlier this year. The website has some recipes, yet I could think of no better way to utilize the stuff than to make french toast.

Following (and halving) the recipe on the package, a nice and cinnamon-y batter ready to engulf slices of spelt bread. This was really a yummy treat. Only having made vegan french toast on one other occasion, I had almost forgotten its unique flavor. There was only a hint of eggy-ness – perfect for a sweet and syrupy breakfast. My only complaint is that each batch took a long time to cook and get near-crispy, but I suppose this is an issue for most french toast.

Have you tried The Vegg? How would you prepare it?

  1. Bought it a few weeks ago but not used it yet as I have no idea how to. I know there is a french toast idea on the packet but it is not a favourite in my home. Never was even when I was eating eggs almost 40 years ago.
